Expanding to the North Sea Region
Expanding your company overseas is normally not without risks and can be a challenging undertaking. What market do I want to enter? Where do I find my customers? Is my USP the same in a different country? In our Interreg Lean Landing program we help you answer these questions. This makes scaling internationally easier and more accessible.
Validate Assumptions Abroad
To validate assumptions regarding your internationalisation strategy, it is important to do research on the ground in your target country. This November we accompanied three carefully selected founders on a first trip to Sweden to test the strategy they designed during earlier sessions in the run up to our journey. Part of this process was the consultation of experienced entrepreneurs during our masterclass, geared to better understand the Swedish business etiquettes. Armed with these insights, the founders of SOWISO, Patient Journey App and Ligo were ready to take action. The three different companies had numerous questions they wanted to be answered and assumptions to be validated: Are the Swedes fed-up with the current legal system? Do students pay for their own books at Swedish universities? Are the Swedes digital savvy? Is there room for digitization within the Swedish healthcare system? Which similar products or services exist already?
The Program in Sweden
In search for answers we first went to the beautiful city of Malmö. As one of the largest cities of Scandinavia, Malmö has a vibrant entrepreneurial culture. We met at the co-working space of our partner Media Evolution to enjoy a meaningful lunch with Swedish founders: the perfect occasion to get in touch with key stakeholders in the Swedish startup ecosystem, and the source of an inspiring discussion. Together with Media Evolution we organized individual meetings with potential partners and customers for the Dutch founders. After a first successful day, some of them travelled to Götenburg independently to follow-up on leads that were developed beforehand.
CEO Wendy Bogers of Ligo: DutchBasecamp connects you directly with international partners. I’m impressed by their dedication to support startups and their capacity to guide you in the internationalisation process.
